What is the warranty of a Modern Equipment foundry ladle?

1 year material and workmanship from shipping date.

How long have you been manufacturing ladles?

PRODUCT

What is a foundry ladle made of?

Carbon Steel.

What size and tonnage of ladles does Modern Equipment Company produce?

Sizes vary based on the density of the metal being poured, but, if we us Iron as our base, our Ladles range from 100lbs to 55,000lbs. These range from the smaller Lever-Tilt Ladles to our large Forehearth Ladles.

What is the purpose of a foundry ladle in steelmaking?

Handling Molten Metal for the main purpose of pouring castings/molds.

What are typical spare parts for a ladle?

Common wear parts are the bearings/bushings from the Trunnions and Gearboxes, in addition to the gears themselves. All parts are noted on the specific drawings for the Ladles, Gearboxes and Lifting Devices. Additional details for the assemblies are available upon request. Depending on the environment some of the larger components of the Ladle, such as the Bail and Stubs or Shank Ring, could get damaged and require repair/replacement, but a typical Modern Ladle, core assembly, is designed to last for generations.

When do you consider a “rebuild” for a foundry ladle?

Modern will look at rebuilding a Ladle assembly as long as there are components that are still in good condition. For instance, if the Bail is damaged and the Stubs are bent, then the Shell would need to be in good condition to justify a rebuild, otherwise you’d be adding new components to an unstable base and the longevity can not be ensured. If the Bail and Stubs are in good shape, but the Shell is damaged, we could replace the Shell. If the damage is to all components, it is in the customer’s best interest from a safety and financial perspective, to replace the entire assembly.

Gearbox and Lifting Device Rebuilds are much more common due to the number of wear parts in this equipment.

The point of a rebuild is to provide like new equipment to the customer with a 90-day warranty on material and workmanship. Typical rebuilds can cost around 60% the cost of new equipment. The customer is always provided with a quote and can choose to either rebuild or have the dismantled equipment returned to them.

definitions

What is an industrial foundry ladle?

In its simplest definition, an Industrial Foundry Ladle is a solution for transporting molten metal. Different Ladle designs can facilitate pouring, transporting and treating the molten metal.

What is refractory?

Refractory is the material used to line the steel Shell of the Ladle. It is a typically a brick or concrete-like material designed to withstand the high temperatures of the molten metal. Customers can use the bricks to line the Ladle or pour the refractory using a Lining Form. Other options would be precast liners made from similar materials or ceramics. Modern does not provide refractory or casted liners, however we do sell custom designed Lining Forms for the customer to pour their own refractory.

What is a hand wheel on a ladle?

The Ladle can be tipped for pouring using either a Lever, for smaller Ladles, or a Gearbox. The Gearbox utilizes a Handwheel to turn/pour the Ladle. The Gearbox is designed to make the turning of, even very heavy Ladles, easy. Modern is known for its 2-finger pour which refers to the minimal effort required to turn the Handwheel. Customer may also opt for a motorized Gearbox which replaces the Handwheel with a motor and the Ladle is turned with the push of a button.
